Design Binding
Design binding is a specialty of mine. The style most commonly refers to a style of bookbinding where the cover is treated as a unique work of art, reflecting the content of the book itself through artistic interpretation and decoration techniques. The final product is a distinctive, one-of-a-kind collector’s item specially made for you.
I employ a variety of techniques to achieve the work and it is only limited by our imagination. Examples include:
- Cuir-ciselé – an ancient bookbinding technique for decorating leather covers by using a sharp tool to cut the design into dampened leather, then chiseling or beveling sections to emphasize the design.
- Gold and Silver tooling
- Inlay/Onlay
- Edge gilding
